New Delhi: The Indian football team slipped 15 places to 117th in the FIFA rankings. This is India’s worst ranking in the last seven years. India was ranked 102nd in the ranking released on December 21, 2023. India’s poor performance in the AFC Asian Cup held in Qatar was a setback.
After losing all their matches in the group stage, India returned without conceding a single goal. This is India’s worst ranking since it fell to 129th in January 2017. India’s worst ever ranking was in 2015 when it fell to 173rd position.
India lost 35.63 rating points with poor performance in the Asian Cup. With this, India has become 22nd in the Asian ranking. Meanwhile, Asian Cup winners Qatar and runner-up Jordan have gained in the rankings. Qatar rose 21 places to 37th place, while Jordan rose 17 places to 70th.
