This Asian Cup is also the qualifying round of the AFC U-17 Lockup to be held in Peru this year. The four teams that reach the semi-finals can qualify for the World Cup. In 2018, the Indian team reached the quarter-finals of the tournament, then known as the AFC U-16 Championship. They missed out on World Cup qualification by just one win. Bibiano Fernandes, a native of Goa, was the coach of the team that day.
