‘India should be ready to replace Rishabh Pant with Sanju Samson’: Former Pakistan player Danish Kaneria

Team India suffered two defeats against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup. With these defeats, India’s chances of advancing to the finals were all but over. Many fans are disappointed with the poor performance of Rohit Sharma and co. Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is widely blamed for India’s early exit from the Asia Cup. Many experts believed that Ball was the future star of Indian cricket in all three formats. There is a growing opinion that Pant has had plenty of opportunities to prove his mettle and the selectors should now look for a replacement for Pant in T20s.

Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria also came into the discussion about Rishabh Pant. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kaneria suggested that Indian selectors should replace Ball in the T20 format with Sanju Samson in the squad. Kaneria pointed out that Pant has been given more than enough chances and the Indian management should now support Sanju Samson. Kaneria, who was a leg-spinner, also indicated that India will not be able to keep Dinesh Karthik with him for long.

“Sanju Samson didn’t get as many opportunities to prove himself as Rishabh Pant did. I think Sanju Samson is the best choice in T20 cricket. Pant is the best player in Test and ODI. Sanju can be a crucial player for India in T20. How long can Dinesh Karthik continue? “With a T20 World Cup coming up, India should prepare the team for the future,” Kaneria said.

Although Pant has proved his mettle in Test cricket, the same cannot be said of his performance in T20s. The 24-year-old has a batting average of 23.4 from 57 T20 matches. Moreover, his strike rate is only 126.4. In the crucial Super 4 matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Rishabh Pant was a complete failure.

The Delhi Capitals skipper had a poor game at crucial moments. His careless shot selection especially in the high voltage Super 4 clash against Pakistan angered the fans. When the team needed it most, Pant was out for 14 runs while attempting a reverse sweep against leg-spinner Shadab Khan. It remains to be seen how long the Indian team management will support Rishabh Pant in the shortest format of the game.
