New Delhi: India’s men’s badminton doubles players Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty talk about history after winning gold in the Asian Games. According to the latest ranking released by BWF, the international badminton organization, the combination of Satvik and Chirag has reached the first rank in the world men’s doubles.
This is the first time that an Indian men’s doubles team has topped the world rankings. Recently, both of them made history by winning gold in the 2023 Asian Games. Both became a part of history by winning gold for India in Asian Games badminton for the first time.
Before the Asian Games, both of them were ranked third, and later on the strength of the gold medal, they jumped to the first place. After Prakash Padukone, Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth, they are also the first ranked Indian players in badminton.
In the Asian Games final, the duo won the gold by defeating South Korea’s Choi Sol Gyu-Kim Won. And that too for live games. Both were also part of the Indian men’s badminton team that won silver in the Asian Games. The Satwik-Chirag alliance has won five BWF titles since 2022. And made history by winning the Thomas Cup. Both had won gold in men’s doubles at last year’s Commonwealth Games. Later he won bronze in the world championship.
