the CEOChief executive officeror executive director.”>1 da Apple, Tim Cookmet yesterday with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, after visiting the company’s two new stores in the country. In a post on Twitter, the executive reinforced Apple’s interest in investing even more in the Asian country.

The company, it is worth remembering, has been betting big on India as the new home for a good part of its production, since it has been trying to reduce dependence on factories located in China. As we commented recently, the country is already responsible for 7% of all iPhones produced in the world.

Thanks Prime Minister @narendramodi for the warm welcome. We share your vision of the positive impact technology can have on India’s future — from education and developers to manufacturing and the environment, we are committed to growing and investing across the country.

As noted by Archyde.coma day after the meeting between Cook and Modi, India’s deputy minister of information technology, Rajeev Chandrasekharsaid he is “very confident” about the possibility of Apple duplicating or even triple its investment in the country in the coming years.

I’m very confident that this Apple-India partnership has plenty of room for investment, growth, exports and jobs — doubling and tripling in the coming years.

Apple BKC (in Mumbai) and Apple Saket (in New Delhi) are Apple’s first two stores in the Asian country since it established itself there nearly two decades ago. The Apple Store Online, in turn, has been operating in India since 2020.

Apple, it is worth noting, has been producing iPhones in the region for some time, but only cheaper models aimed at the domestic market – which could change this year. There are also indications that the company also plans to manufacture iPads and AirPods in the country in the near future.
