The movie calendar is about to jump to 2023, which means moviegoers are about to have a bunch of new movies to gush about. Arguably one of the most anticipated movies next year is Untitled Indiana Jones 5, who will see the star Harrison Ford put on the fedora one last time. After many years in development purgatory, the latest film in this adventure saga hits theaters in June, and fans are finally getting their first official look at the film thanks to Empire Magazine. As part of their 2023 preview issue which features Indy’s epic return as its cover story, we now have our first look at Phoebe Waller-Bridgethe character of Helen.
It has been confirmed by Empire that Helena will be Indy’s goddaughter, and the new image sees the couple at the heart of the new adventure. Helena watches something in the distance as Indy appears to be getting information. Without any context about where they are or what they’re up to, it feels like Helena takes on the thrilling sense of adventure. Speaking to Empire, Waller-Bridge called Helena a “mystery and wonder,” while the director James Mangold said the character was “slippery, charming, girl next door, [and] a crook “. Ford also chimed in, saying Helena was “a pioneer in ethical accounting.” That’s all we know about this still fairly mysterious character, but Mangold added that he was inspired by Barbara Stanwyckthe character of in the goofy 1941 comedy The Lady Eve.
Empire’s cover story brought a lot of compelling intrigue to Indy’s latest adventure. We now know that Indiana Jones 5 will take place in 1969, focusing on the space race of the time and the discovery that ex-Nazis were involved in the creation of the NASA program. As fans know, the only thing Indy hates more than snakes is Nazis. This plot will also take our favorite cinematic adventurer to New York for part of the film and against Mads Mikkelsenis the villainous Voller.
Indiana Jones is one of the most iconic franchises in film history. Whether it’s his Jean WilliamsA brilliant musical score or endless Ford charm is the definition of a classic adventure series, and it will be thrilling to see what Waller-Bridge and Mangold bring to the franchise. Waller-Bridge killed him lately with Flea bag, Kill Eveet Solo: A Star Wars Storyand she had a writing credit on the last James Bond movie no time to dieso expect plenty of fun and fresh life from her character Helena in this latest Indy adventure.
