New Delhi: Ahead of the 141st session of the International Olympic Committee, IOC President Thomas Bach said he has noted India’s ‘great interest’ in hosting the Games. He also said that now is the right time to reintroduce cricket to the sports center as the T20 cricket format is to be included in the 2028 edition.

India is in talks to host the Olympics in 2036, and although the official bidding process has not yet begun, Thomas Bach said the possibility is being seriously considered. “We have noticed that there is a lot of interest and apparently serious considerations in India (to bid). Now we have to wait and see how this will turn into a project and be brought to us. Only then can we form an opinion,” Thomas Bach told reporters.

”Improving India’s performance in multi-sports events is another aspect to consider in this regard. “We appreciate how Olympic sports have grown in India in recent years. If you look at the medal chase in this Asian Games, it is really impressive. You can see that India has medals in various events, not just shooting anymore,” he said.

The IOC session to be held in Mumbai later this week was earlier scheduled for May. It was postponed due to administrative issues in the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). There were allegations of corruption against the IOA in connection with the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

He said he did not think the 2010 Commonwealth Games would trigger the question of whether such allegations would derail India’s bid to host the Olympics. Today’s India cannot be compared to the India of 2010. He said. “But the IOA’s decision will be decisive in this regard. Our Agency in India When it comes to IOA Olympic management, only the National Olympic Committee can sign the agreement. No candidature is valid without signature of NOC. That is why we should have faith in the governance of the IOA,” he warned. “We saw some movement. We hope to continue this progress. We will take the opportunity of your visit here for further discussion. Then we will have faith in IOA,’ he said.

India is hosting the International Olympic Committee after 40 years. The IOC Executive Board will meet on October 12 and 13 ahead of the session. The opening ceremony of the IOC session will be held on October 14. The session will be held at Jio World Center in Mumbai.
