India’s H.S. Prannoy Shines in World Badminton Championship: Quarterfinals and Team Updates

Copenhagen: India’s medal hope in World Badminton Championship H.S. Prannoy made it to the quarter finals. In the men’s singles, the Thiruvananthapuram man defeated Singapore’s world number seven Lo Keen Yew two games to one following a close fight.

Score: 21-18, 21-15, 21-19. India’s Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also made it to the quarters in the men’s doubles, while the women’s doubles pair of Teresa Jolie and Gayatri Gopichand were knocked out in the prequarters. World No. 9 Prannoy was threatened by Low Keane in the first game. Prannoy won by a narrow margin but the Singaporean dominated the second. The third game was also a tough battle to decide the winner. Finally with Jayam Prannoy.

World No. 2 Satwik-Chirag defeated Indonesia’s Rolly Karnando-Daniel Martin 21-15, 19-21, 21-9. The Malayali team of Trees and Gayatri lost to China’s Chen Keung Chen-Jia Yee Fan 14-21, 9-21.
