India’s Support for UN Resolution on Golan Heights Withdrawal

New Delhi – India supports the UN General Assembly resolution demanding Israel’s withdrawal from the Golan Heights. India will be among the 91 countries that have voted in support of the resolution. Apart from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, China, Lebanon, Iran and Iraq also supported the resolution.

Eight countries, including Israel, opposed the resolution, while 62 countries abstained from voting. Australia, UK, USA, Palau, Micronesia, Canada and Marshall Islands were opposed. Ukraine, France, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Japan, Kenya, Poland, Austria and Spain were absent.

The voting was last day. The Golan Heights are the territory captured by Israel from Syria in the 1967 Six Day War. International organizations, including the United Nations, have asked Israel many times to leave.
