Bengaluru: India remain unbeaten in ODI Cricket World Cup group stage. India defeated Holland by 160 runs in the ninth and final match of the group held yesterday. Batting first at the run-flowing Chinnaswamy Stadium, India posted 410 for four. Batting back, Holland put up a good fight. They held on till 47.5 and were all out for 250 runs.
Teja Nidamanuru (54 off 39 balls including six sixes and a four), Sybrand Inglebresch (45) and Colin Aukerman (35 off 32 balls) lessened the impact of the defeat. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each for India. Part-time bowler Virat Kohli also took a wicket. Kohli took the first wicket of the ODI World Cup by taking skipper Scott Edwards (17) to the hands of wicketkeeper Lokesh Rahul. Part-time bowling captain Rohit Sharma took a wicket. It was Rohit who gave India the win by taking Teja Nidamanuru to Mohammad Shami. Nidamanuru returned with the record of being the Dutch player who hit the most sixes in an ODI.
The wicket fell in the second over bowled by Mohammad Siraj. Wesley Baresi (four) was caught by wicketkeeper Lokesh Rahul. Opener Max O’Dowd (30 off 42 balls with one six and three fours) and Aukerman avoided the collapse. Kuldeep Yadav broke the partnership by trapping Aukerman in front of the wicket. Cybrand and Max went on a rescue mission. Max was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja before the big partnership. The return of Scott Edwards and Baz de Leyde (12) was a setback for Holland. Logan van Beek (16), Reelof van der Merwe (16) and Aryan Dutt (five) also failed to make the cut. After winning the toss, Rohit Sharma chose to bat and it was certain that India would reach a huge score. India produced a match in which all the batsmen performed well. Shreyas Iyer (128 not out with 5 sixes and 10 fours off 94 balls) and Lokesh Rahul (102 off 64 balls with 4 sixes and 11 fours) scored brilliant centuries and India crossed 400. Openers Rohit Sharma (61 off 54 balls with two sixes and eight fours) and Shubman Gill (51 off 31 balls with four sixes and three fours) gave a good start. India crossed 90 runs in the first 10 overs. With the score at exactly 100, Paul van Meekeren delivered Gill to Dinamanuru. Virat Kohli, who came to the crease third (51 including one six and five fours off 56 balls) also scored a half-century. With Rohit and Kohli out, Shreyas Iyer and Rahul teamed up. Both played attacking. India crossed 300 runs in the 42nd over. Rahul reached 50 off 40 balls. As India started to play with a target of 400, the boundaries started to flow. Shreyas Iyer completed his century in 84 balls. This is Shreyas first World Cup century. Shreyas hit three sixes against Van Beek, who bowled the 49th over. 25 runs were scored in that over. Rahul completed his century in the last over. This is Rahul’s second World Cup century. Shreyas Iyer is the star of the match. With this, the group matches of the World Cup have ended. India will face New Zealand in the first semi-final on Wednesday.

50 for five people

Bengaluru: Team India set a rare record in the World Cup cricket match against Holland. India became the first in history to have five top batsmen score half-centuries in the same innings.
Opener and skipper Rohit Sharma, co-opener Shubman Gill and former skipper Virat Kohli got out with half-centuries. Shreyas Iyer and Lokesh Rahul remained unbeaten with centuries.
This is only the third time in ODI history that the first five batsmen of a team have scored half-centuries. Australia has achieved this feat both times. Both Australia’s matches were against India.
