Indonesia-Singapore Agree to Strengthen Cooperation in Various Fields – 2024-04-29 19:22:37

The Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of Singapore have agreed to strengthen a number of cooperation between the two countries. This agreement was taken at a bilateral meeting between President Joko Widodo and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Nogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Monday (29/4).

“This is the 7th Leaders’ Retreat and is a strong signal for the continuity of cooperation between Singapore and Indonesia,” said Jokowi in a joint press statement, at the Bogor Palace, West Java, Monday (29/4).

The first reinforcement of cooperation came from the political and defense fields. Both countries welcomed the ongoing implementation of the Flight Information Region (FIR), defense and extradition agreements.

“In the future, we need to ensure that its implementation runs fully,” said Jokowi.

Then, in the economic sector, Indonesia offers several investment opportunities in the textile manufacturing sector at the Kendal Industrial Park in Central Java. Apart from that, in the green economy sector, Indonesia offers sustainable infrastructure development and data center construction in Nongsa District, Batam City, Riau Islands.

President Jokowi also appreciated the enthusiasm of 29 Singaporean companies who are ready to invest in the Indonesian Capital City (IKN). Jokowi also hopes for Singapore’s support for the construction of a solar power plant (PLTS) in IKN.

In terms of food security, Indonesia and Singapore agreed to encourage cooperation in technology transfer and exchange of knowledge and technology in terms of food processing.

“For cooperation on halal products, Indonesia invited Singapore to become the developer of three halal industrial areas, namely in Bintan, Riau Islands, in Serang, Banten, and in Sidoarjo, East Java.

Third, in the socio-cultural sector, the Indonesian-Singapore Government has discussed strengthening health transformation through investment in building hospitals and clinics, developing the capacity of medical personnel, digitizing health and developing a Health Special Economic Zone (KEK) in Bali.

Regarding education, Indonesia has conveyed the importance of reactivation of the joint working group, and invited Singapore to the World Water Forum in Bali on 18-25 May 2024.

“We also discussed regional and global issues. We agreed to continue to encourage the creation of peace in the Middle East and strive to strengthen the centrality of Asia,” said the former mayor of Surakarta.

At the meeting, an MoU was signed between Indonesia and Singapore regarding community strengthening for the mangrove ecosystem (MoU Concerning Community Empowerment in Mangrove Ecosystem) by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan and Senior Minister & Coordinating Minister for National Security of the Republic of Singapore Teo Chee Hean.

Apart from that, an MoU was also signed between Indonesia and Singapore regarding updating cooperation in the defense sector, which was signed by the Indonesian Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto and the Minister of Defense of Singapore Ng Eng Hen. (Z-11)
