Indonesia Steps Up Enforcement Against Illegal Nickel Mining in Raja Ampat

Indramayu, W. Java-indonesia is intensifying its crackdown on illegal nickel mining operations within the Raja Ampat Regency, located in Southwest Papua Province.Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq,in close collaboration with the National Police (Polri),is spearheading these efforts to combat environmental violations.

“We Have taken concrete steps in the field,” Nurofiq stated on Friday. “along With the chief of Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, we continue carrying out integrated law enforcement.”

The Ministry of Environment has also frozen the environmental approvals for these companies, citing important violations detected during detailed supervision.

“Based On detailed supervision carried out by our deputy of law enforcement, there were quite serious environmental violations found. Thus, we have to freeze them,” Nurofiq explained.
