In a recent publication carried out by Industry Portal through study Construction Industry Survey, in the month of November 2023, the Construction Industry Business Confidence Index (ICEI) experienced an increase of 0.4 points compared to October 2023. According to the report, this increase caused the indicator number to reach the mark of 53.1 points, indicating a more robust and widespread confidence. However, when analyzing the results it is possible to verify that the index remained below its historical average.
In the publication, which was carried out in November, it is verified that, within the components that make up the ICEI, expectations played an important role, according to the document, in the progress recorded in the month, presenting an increase of 0.6 points. The report points out that Construction Confidence reached 55.7 points in November.
According to the same report, entrepreneurs’ prospects for their own companies showed slight optimism, with the index rising from 58.4 points to 58.8 points. Furthermore, expectations for the Brazilian economy revealed a lesser inclination towards pessimism in relation to October.
José Antônio Valente, director of the construction equipment rental franchise Franquia Trans Obra states that there is still some fear about the economy in Brazil, but that the note made in the study in question, that the index went from 48.5 points to 49.3 points, could be an important sign to help boost even investments in the sector for the months themselves. “I’m talking about this investment being able to come from the companies themselves that noticed this improvement in metrics.”
Still according to the publication, when assessing current conditions, it remained practically stable compared to October, with the index rising from 47.8 points to 47.9 points. The document states that the assessment of the current conditions of the Brazilian economy, on the one hand, was less pessimistic in November, with an increase from 43.8 points to 45.0 points. On the other hand, according to the report, the company’s current conditions index moved away from the 50-point line towards the negative field, recording a drop from 49.8 points to 49.3 points.
Asked about the subject, José Antônio, stated that the month of November 2023 witnessed an increase in the Construction Industry Business Confidence Index, driven mainly by more optimistic expectations for companies and the Brazilian economy. “I believe that with a sequence of results closer to the average line of 50 points, the confidence of industry entrepreneurs will also increase”.
