Inflation does not stop: wholesale and imported products rose by 18 and 30% in the month of August

Inflation for the month of August, which reached 12.4% according to Indec, continues to show worrying numbers that directly impact daily consumption. Now, it was known that wholesale products climbed a 18,7%while imported ones rose one 30,2%. Regarding the latter, it is worth mentioning the high costs to enter them into the country due to the lack of dollars and withholdings of inputs.

According to wholesalers, the products that increased the most correspond to Hygiene and cleaning, and Food and non-alcoholic beverages. National products increased by 17.6%. Even so, more increases are expected in the coming weeks and more limitations when purchasing in quantity.

Regarding the limitations, the most affected products were energizers, rice, sugar and other inputs from various brands. The cookies too and there is a shortage of flour due to the strong increases. Currently, there is a lot of uncertainty about the 21% VAT refund, although it is considered a positive measure by the majority.

Among the imported products are tuna, mackerel and imported soups. Furthermore, although there are products that are manufactured in the country, there is always an input that is required from outside, as is the case with toothpastes. They are the products that have increased the most, although there are no shortages on the shelves.

The impact on the basic food basket

The basic food basket (CBA) soared to a record 17% in August, which coincides with the increase in domestic products. In this sense, a typical family needed $284,687 to avoid falling into poverty and $130,590 to avoid being indigent. The data was known 48 hours after that same organization released the inflation figures in the eighth month of the year, which showed 12.4%, the highest figure in the last 32 years.

The items in the food basket have increased by 146.4% since August of last year, and exceeds the increase in retail prices in the same comparison by 22 percentage points. Both baskets were impacted in August by the 15.6% increase in food and beverage prices, which is the main component that makes them up.
