The decline in inflation in Austria to a bearable level, which many have longed for, is a long time coming. Rather, the recent downward trend was interrupted by an increase in inflation from seven to 7.4 percent in August – mainly due to rising fuel costs, Statistics Austria announced on Tuesday. As a result, price inflation in this country has been consistently above the five percent mark since January 2022, i.e. for more than a year and a half. What does that do to people? In which areas do they change their consumer behavior and save – and in which areas do they not?
