A man from British Columbia had the ingenious idea of inventing a device to prevent the theft of vehicle catalysts, a phenomenon that has been gaining momentum in recent times.
Lake Country resident Rod Newlove designed a new device called Converter Defender by equipping the vehicle with an alarm that detects any contact or vibration when the ignition is off.
“The device is in test mode for the first three minutes after switching off the ignition. The single beep indicates the alarm is active and after three minutes it will be fully active,” Mr Newlove told Global News.
If a thief tries to steal the catalytic converter from a vehicle, the alarm goes off and causes such a loud noise, a way of drawing attention to the targeted vehicle and derailing the thieves’ project.
