Civic group ‘false writing’ complaint
Commissioner Yoon Hee-geun, who was finally recommended
The police have launched an investigation against Attorney Soon-Shin Jeong (pictured), who was accused of failing to record details related to his son’s school violence disciplinary actions in his personnel verification documents. On the 24th of last month, President Yoon Seok-yeol appointed Attorney Chung as the head of the National Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency, but canceled the appointment a day later for reasons such as his son’s alleged abuse at school.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 2nd that it had assigned the Seodaemun Police Station the case of lawyer Jung, who was accused of creating false official documents and obstructing the execution of public affairs by deception.
The Seodaemun Office announced that it had received an official document regarding the allotment of the accusations against Attorney Chung and Commissioner General Yoon Hee-geun.
Earlier, on the 28th of last month, a civic group, the People’s Livelihood Countermeasures Committee (Seominwi), filed a complaint against Attorney Chung to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
The group argued that “Attorney Chung falsely entered the answers in the ‘preliminary questionnaire for candidates for public office’.”
Attorney Jeong is accused of providing false facts in the ‘preliminary questionnaire for candidates for public office’ sent by the Ministry of Justice’s Personnel Information Management Team, which is in charge of personnel verification of candidates for the head of the Noodle Headquarters. In the questionnaire, ‘Do you have any civil or administrative lawsuits related to you, your spouse, or your lineal ascendants and descendents as a plaintiff or defendant?’
In the complaint, the People’s Committee argued that “Attorney Chung’s actions amounted to intentionally creating false public documents,” and “interfered with the personnel verification system for the head of the Noodle Headquarters and stirred up confusion.”
The People’s Committee also filed a complaint with Attorney Chung to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency against Commissioner Yoon on charges of abuse of power, obstruction of exercise of rights, coercion, and violation of the Recruitment Procedure Act.
They accused Commissioner Yoon of “recommending lawyer Jeong, who was involved in the case in which his son was accused of abusing in 2018, as the final candidate because he was close to President Yoon Seok-yeol,” and “Chief Yoon destroyed the trust in the personnel verification system.” stated the purpose.
