Injured in rocket attack on Baghdad’s government district

In the Iraqi capital Baghdad, shortly before the start of the parliamentary session to elect a new president, nine rockets fell in the government district, according to military sources. The military announced today that several security forces in the Green Zone were injured.

According to Archyde.com, no one has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks. Similar attacks on the heavily secured Green Zone, where Parliament, government buildings and embassies are located, had already taken place in September before a new Speaker of Parliament was elected.

Rockets have repeatedly been fired at the government district in recent years, mostly by militias supported by Iran. In recent months there have also been protests between rival Shia groups and riots over the unclear balance of power caused by the political stalemate following the October 2021 parliamentary elections.
