It’s a race against time!
Before the cup game against Wolfsburg (tomorrow, 8:45 p.m./Sky and ARD), Borussia is worried about injuries. With three stars there is a little confidence.

At least with Max Wöber (25/ill), Julian Weigl (27/strain) and Tomas Cvancara (23/muscular problems), Gladbach coach Gerardo Seoane (45) exudes optimism that they could return to the squad.
Seoane: “With Max, Julian and Tomas there is a bit of hope that they can be there. We’re waiting for the final training. It will be a challenge for us as a coaching team, a test of patience until we have clarity.”

The Austrian has the best chance of the trio. Especially against Wolfsburg’s top striker Jonas Wind, Borussia needs a robust defensive player like “Warrior-Wöber”. Both Marvin Friedrich (27) and youngster Fabio Chiarodia (18) had problems with Hoffenheim’s striker Wout Weghorst on Saturday, but would be ready if Wöber was unavailable, said Seoane.

Friedrich was in the starting line-up against Hoffenheim for the fourth time of the season and celebrated his first win. When asked by BILD, Seoane said about his performance and the interaction of the rebuilt defense: “With Marvin, you could feel that he hadn’t played for a long time, but that’s normal. You could already feel that Max and later Nico were missing. But I was happy with how the whole team defended.”
However, Seoane notes critically: “The distances were too large in places. Against Wolfsburg we have to be closer between the lines to put pressure on the ball.”
Against the most running-intensive team in the league (802 intensive runs per game), Borussia (658 intensive runs per game) absolutely has to hold their own in order to fill the spaces that Seoane has called for – and can use any fit player to do this.
Otherwise, the Gladbachers risk losing out on the 1.7248 million euros for reaching the cup quarter-finals…
