Sulayman claims to have reported the loss of his identity document in April 2021. But in May 2022, he was arrested by the police at Zaventem airport, when he was about to board with his wife, their sons and friends for a holiday in Istanbul. Taken to the Midi zone police station, he is accused of drug trafficking. “I spent hours in the cell. It was horrible ! I was only released the next day,” he told La Libre.

Since then, arrests have multiplied. “Two months later, I underwent a new audition, this time at the request of the organized crime section of the Brussels PJF. This time I was accused of having rented cars in the context of trafficking from a criminal organization. On September 27, it was my home that they came to search. The police disembarked at 10 for an instruction related to Operation Sky, in an Antwerp section. I have again been deprived of my liberty”, indignant Sulayman who has always told the police that there is a mistake about the person.

“I was arrested four times in total! Every morning, I expect someone to come to my house! I no longer know how to be calm. Fortunately for me, my employer is very understanding, but I always have to take time off, etc. It becomes unbearable, both for me and for my loved ones, ”says the young man, also prosecuted for non-payment of 38,000 euros in lease rent for a warehouse he never rented.

His lawyer, Me Edouard Huysmans, has initiated all the procedures for the Belgian justice to recognize him as a victim of identity theft in the context of these four cases. “I choose to denounce what is happening to me so that criminals know that they can no longer use my identity as they please and that the police can access this information in open source, just to avoid a fifth arrest,” he said.
