Insatiable: Thiago Almada is once again Player of the Week in MLS

The Argentine scored two goals and registered two assists during Saturday’s 5-1 win over the Portland Timbers over the Portland Timbers at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday. Almada became the first player in MLS history to score at least four goals and four assists in the first four games of the season for his team.

Thiago Almada is the leading scorer of the 2023 MLS season, tied with Philadelphia Union’s Dániel Gazdag for first place in assists. Almada joins Yamil Asad, who on September 20, 2017 against the LA Galaxy became the first Atlanta United player to record two goals and two assists in an MLS game.

Since May 1, 2022, Almada has 25 goal contributions (nine goals, 16 assists), which ranks fourth in that period, behind Gazdag (33), Hany Mukhtar (30) and Luciano Acosta (26). ). Despite playing just 33 games for Atlanta, the 21-year-old offensive midfielder is already the seventh-highest producer in Five-Cushion history (26 contributions).

Thiago Almada -winner of the 2022 FIFA World Cup with the Argentina national team- had already been chosen as the Player of the Matchday 1 this season.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each regular season matchday through media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprise 75 percent of the vote, while the Twitter fan vote accounts for the remaining 25 percent of the vote. NASR is made up of members from print, television, radio, and online media.
