Frits Lugt created his first collection directory when he was just eight years old. In it he documented the exhibited objects from his personal museum, which he had founded in his childhood bedroom. The so-called “Museum Lugtius” was only open when the “director” was at home, as he recorded in his writing. While the main attraction of the child’s collection at the time consisted of objects such as rare shells, the man born Frederik Johannes Lugt in Amsterdam in 1884 turned to fine art as a teenager.
