O Instagram announced some news aimed at combating spam on the platform — especially useful for those who manage accounts with a large reach, like creators.

In this sense, the Meta network detailed in a post which improved its automated spam and bot detection across the app by providing “more proactive” filters that make it easier to filter out spam comments, requests, etc.

More precisely, there are three new features:

  • Accounts with spam potential: Instagram will automatically filter all follower requests your account receives and place potentially spammy profiles on a separate list for you to approve. This list will also include any existing followers that the network’s systems have flagged as likely spam accounts or bots.
  • Tags with potential for spam: Instagram will make it possible to bulk review all suspected spam tags in order to remove them faster. Any tag requests you don’t review will be automatically deleted after 30 days.
  • Spam-Potential Views: Instagram is also testing hiding views on its Stories that were detected as originating from likely spam accounts.

In addition to these measures, Instagram is expanding its comment filtering tools to also cover suspected spam responses. This way, the network will send you in-app notifications if it detects comments on your posts that violate the platform’s content policies.

It is worth noting that Instagram also recently launched the option to publish a Note with video; Furthermore, the network is also testing the possibility of creating alternative profiles within your main account.
