Yako: Installation of a tomato sector innovation platform

Yako, August 11, 2022 (AIB)-Several actors from the links of the tomato sector in the province of Passoré took part from Monday August 8 to Thursday August 11, 2022 in Yako, in a training workshop on the implementation of innovation in the tomato sector.

The training workshop on the implementation of innovation platforms in the tomato sector also recorded the participation of facilitators as well as catalysts for change from Passoré.

The workshop was organized by the Agricultural Resilience and Competitiveness Project (PReCA) in collaboration with the Institute of Environment and Agricultural Research (INERA)

It specifically aimed to establish, among other things, the mapping of the actors of each of the innovation platforms (IP), to analyze the strengths and weaknesses, the opportunities as well as the threats that could affect the said platforms in Passoré.

It also involved setting up management committees for good IP governance, developing platform action plans over a 3-year period, in addition to signing team contracts.

Grouped into workshops divided according to the various links in the tomato value chains, namely processors, consumers and suppliers of agricultural inputs (traders, transporters and collectors), the participants proceeded, among other things, to identify the actors by link and complete the technical identification sheets indicating, among other things, the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and constraints of each link.

The head of the agricultural resilience and competitiveness project (PReCA) in the North region, Victor Savadogo indicated that in its implementation, the PReCA provides, among other things, for the development of nearly 700 ha for the production of the tomato sector in the Passoré, the construction of storage warehouses and canneries equipped with a solar and cold system as well as the training of actors in each link with a view to improving production surfaces.

At the end of the work, the organizers set up an office composed of 6 members headed by a president, a vice-president, a secretary and three other members who will be responsible for managing of the innovation platform for the tomato sector in the province of Passoré.

As soon as they were installed, the head of the PReCA du Nord branch and the interim provincial director in charge of Agriculture in Passoré, Sayouba Laré invited all the players to be sincerely involved in the management of the platforms with a view to achieving the establishment of an action plan that should serve as working tools for the platform management committees that have been set up.
