The immediate collection of fines system was introduced in January 2022 for drug possession. Since then, anyone caught for possession or use of narcotics is immediately presented with a fine to be paid on the spot via a QR code or within 15 days by bank transfer. The amount can go up to 75, 150 or 300 euros, depending on the type of drugs and the quantity seized.
The objective of this measure is to fight more effectively against the feeling of impunity, because previously many files were closed without follow-up.
For possession of cannabis the fines are up to 150 euros, for ecstasy or other synthetic drugs they can be up to 300 euros. Regarding cocaine, the maximum amounts have been increased to 1,000 euros.
Since the introduction of immediate collection, 7,855 fines for drug use have already been imposed, for a total amount of 954,625 euros. Most recent fines have been collected in and around festivals. At Tomorrowland, 360 fines were administered.
