Intense heat kills 3 people in central-southern Italy

In recent days, three elderly people have died due to the intense heat related to the high temperatures that are affecting the country, especially in the central-southern region of ItaliaVery high temperatures are forecast for this Sunday and the coming days.

According to local reports, extreme temperatures, reaching or exceeding 40 degrees in some areas, are expected to remain high for most of July. The current heatwave is believed to have probably caused the deaths of three elderly people, one in Rome (centre) and two in the Puglia region (south).

This Sunday, at least eleven cities, including Rome, Florence, Ancona, Perugia, Latina, Pescara, Bologna and Viterbo, are on red alert due to the current situation.

The heat continues to affect the centre and south of the country, while in the north adverse weather conditions are forecast, similar to those experienced in recent days, with rain, storms, hail and strong gusts of wind, which have caused material damage. As a result, the regions of Veneto and Alto Adige have issued alerts.
