Intense Weather Alert: California Braces for Atmospheric River and Heavy Rainfall

2023-11-12 23:28:56

A particularly intense weather cocktail awaits California this week, several American media report.

From Tuesday to Friday, a total of 100 mm of rain is forecast in some areas while others might receive up to 60 cm of snow.

This precipitation is the result of the first atmospheric river of the season. Meteorologists are warning people that this storm is likely to bring sudden and intense weather changes.

The strength of this storm is rated at 2 on a scale of up to 5.

The San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento Valley areas will be hit hardest by rain. A particularly powerful deluge is expected on Wednesday. Up to a month’s worth of precipitation might fall on some areas in just four days.

For its part, the Sierra Nevada will receive significant amounts of snow. Accumulations of up to 60 centimeters are expected on certain mountains near Sacramento.

The National Weather Service in Sacramento also indicated that flooding was possible.

Residents in the area have been advised to clean their gutters and avoid any roads that might be flooded.
