Sydney: Intensive search for former radio presenter Roman Buchaski, who went fishing alone in a crocodile-infested river in northern Australia. The Guardian reported that he went missing on Sunday in Oliver River, Cape York Peninsula, a remote area of Queensland.
A massive search is being conducted by air and land, including helicopters. Some belongings of Roman Buchaski were found near the river.
The 60-year-old Sydney native was a Buchaski fisherman known as Butch and a former presenter of Sydney radio station ‘2GB”s fishing show.
The search began following Buchaski did not return from a fishing trip in the Oliver River on Sunday.
Queensland Police Senior Sergeant Duane Amos told reporters the area was home to large numbers of crocodiles and venomous snakes. But Buchaski is familiar with the area, he added. Meanwhile, there are concerns that Roman Buchaski may be the victim of a crocodile. The global media is also watching the rescue operation for Roman Buchaski.
On the third day of the search, some of Buchaski’s belongings were found near the river, authorities said. Crocodiles are abundant in Australia’s tropical north, and although crocodile attacks are uncommon in the country, more have been reported this year.
In May, the remains of 65-year-old fisherman Kevin Darmody were found inside a 4.1m crocodile. It is the 13th fatal attack in Queensland since 1985.
