Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi Fails to Score in 0-0 Draw: Recap of MLS Weekend

2023-08-31 02:46:04

After an incredible start to his career since joining Inter Miami, Lionel Messi was cleared from the scoresheet for the first time since wearing his new colors in a 0-0 draw against Nashville SC.

The Argentine star netted once in his MLS debut last Saturday, having collected seven goals and three assists in seven League Cup appearances. The only other match in which he hadn’t found the back of the net was in a meeting against Cincinnati in the US Open Cup. However, he had entered his name in the summary with two assists.

The Nashville defense did a colossal job of countering Miami’s powerful attack, led by the arrival of Messi, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.

The Argentinian No. 10 has accustomed us to a few jewels in a free kick situation since his arrival in North America. Messi hit a few in the encounter but was unable to repeat the magic.

Arriving for the start of the second half, league leading scorer Hany Mukthar had the best scoring chances for Nashville, but couldn’t make it happen. While he was alone in front of goalkeeper Drake Callender, former CF Montreal defender Kamal Miller made a simply perfect tackle to deprive the striker of making it 1-0.

Inter Miami’s first game without a win since Messi took over leaves the team tied for last in the East with Toronto FC on 22 points.

Messi will have the chance to set the record straight as Inter Miami take on Los Angeles FC on Sunday.
