Criticism from the FPÖ of Interior Minister Karner is not appropriate. Police do excellent work in challenging times. Interior Ministry takes a clear line against climate chaos.
St. Pölten (OTS) – “The FPÖ’s constant criticism of Interior Minister Karner and the work of our police is not appropriate – the police officers do an outstanding job. Climate adhesives are left to stick wherever it is reasonable for the public – this procedure corresponds to the line that has been set by the Interior Minister for months. And that’s right,” says the regional manager of the Lower Austria People’s Party, Matthias Zauner, and adds: “As far as the staffing situation in the police is concerned, the second republic’s largest admission offensive is currently underway, and the number of applicants is developing in the right direction. The FPÖ’s constant unqualified heckling of our Interior Minister does not change this path to success. The FPÖ should not blame Gerhard Karner on the backs of all police officers for what Herbert Kickl failed to do during his time as Interior Minister.”
Since the beginning of the year, 2,600 reports and 550 arrests
Since the beginning of the year, the police have reported around 2,600 climate chaos activists at around 180 rallies and made 550 arrests. In Lower Austria alone there were 85 reports and 13 arrests. “The approach of the Interior Ministry and the police of always sticking activists when there is no acute danger is the only right way to show that such blockades are the wrong way. Professional police work was also evident in the most recent disruptive operation in St. Pölten on September 7th. While the climate stickers were left to peck, traffic could be quickly redirected and long traffic jams avoided,” said VPNÖ state manager Matthias Zauner.
Justice Minister Zadić must finally act
“The path of our police is definitely the right one – while the FPÖ is playing itself offside by publicly defaming the police and parts of the SPÖ are even fraternizing with the climate chaos and putting their radical approach above the well-being of the normal-thinking population, goes for Interior Minister Karner Solution-oriented approach via political change. We can only hope that Justice Minister Zadić will finally take action and take measures before people are harmed,” concludes Zauner.
