International media highlight the triumph of Nuevas Ideas in municipal elections 2024-03-13 04:37:36

Various international media outlets have highlighted the resounding victory of Nuevas Ideas and allied parties in the contest for the 2024 municipal elections in El Salvador.

Among them is the renowned Costa Rican newspaper, La Nación, which highlighted: «Nayib Bukele obtains the last link of power in El Salvador. Nuevas Ideas will govern the majority of the 14 departmental capitals, including the capital San Salvador, where Mayor Mario Durán, 40, was re-elected.

For its part, the renowned United States news agency, Associated Press, detailed that with 78.13% of the minutes scrutinized, Nuevas Ideas would be ensuring victory in 28 of the 44 mayoralties, two of them in coalition with the CD party; Furthermore, he stated that the allies: GANA, PDC, PCN and Fuerza Solidaria, would win 15 communes in total, to consolidate the majority of municipalities.

Added to these media is the Peruvian newspaper, El Comercio, which highlighted the triumph of Nuevas Ideas in the mayoralties that would be a relevant factor for Bukele’s second term, stating: “The re-elected president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, won “the last link of power by obtaining 43 of the 44 municipal councils with allies, in the elections held this Sunday.”
