Venezuela’s leader, Nicolás Maduro, will be attending the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government in the Dominican Republic. Previously, the country was represented by its foreign minister, Yvan Gil, who held meetings with his Spanish counterpart among others. The summit has resulted in unanimous condemnation of the economic sanctions against Venezuela. The President of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves, and the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, will also attend the summit. The Ibero-American leaders were welcomed at the Ozama fortress in Santo Domingo. The summit aims to have concrete results, as stated by the Ibero-American Secretary General, former Senator Andrés Allamand, during the opening ceremony.
