Veterinarians celebrate their international day every year on the last Saturday of April, and this year it falls on April 29, in support of the veterinarian and promoting his well-being, due to the work he performs, the achievements and the practical field challenges.
The Director General of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Eastern Region, Amer bin Ali Al-Mutairi, congratulated all veterinarians on the occasion, stressing their prominent role in preserving public health, and working to develop the necessary plans to prevent it, and not transmit it to humans.
The role of the vet
Al-Mutairi appreciated their role in ensuring the safety of food in markets, slaughterhouses and dairy projects, and in addressing and controlling diseases and preventing their entry into the Kingdom by tightening control over the imports of animal consignments, in addition to the many roles played by veterinarians.
Al-Mutairi noted the role of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in supporting the tasks of veterinary medicine in general by allocating specialized clinics, laboratories, and veterinary quarries for detection and diagnosis, as well as setting up development and training programs to support the veterinarian, in order to achieve the growth of veterinary services and the development of livestock in order to achieve the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
The celebration began in the year 2000
The Director of the Department of Agriculture in the branch, Zaki bin Ahmed Al Abbas, explained that the veterinary associations in the countries of the world annually celebrate the occasion, with the aim of raising awareness of the role of the veterinarian in society and preserving animal and human health.
He revealed that the beginning of the celebration dates back to the year 2000, when the World Veterinary Medicine Federation in Belgium decided to allocate the last Saturday of April every year as International Veterinary Day.
The concept of one health
The director of the veterinary unit in Dammam, the veterinarian, Mahmoud Al-Khamis, stated that doctors and veterinary assistants play a fundamental role in applying the concept of one health, which is concerned with the health of humans, animals and the environment and its prominent role in preserving human food from an animal source and controlling the quality of supply chains to the final consumer.
He explained: Veterinary guidance is an essential pillar in community service and a link between the breeder and the veterinarian in educating amateurs, livestock and poultry breeders, and horse owners on the importance of animal care and kindness and choosing good nutrition in optimal ways, while not using any medicinal preparation without consulting the veterinarian, while raising health awareness in a manner Safe disposal of waste without harming the environment.
