PCI-SIG, which formulates the PCIe interface standard, launched a new cable specification at the Supercomputing 2023 (SC23) conference and named it “CopprLink” to replace the existing 12VHPWR / 12V-2X6 and other power interfaces. As we all know, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs began to introduce a large number of 12VHPWR power interface promoted by PCI-SIG. However, due to the unreliable contact between wires and pins, some cases of connector meltdown occurred in RTX 4090 graphics cards, forcing PCI-SIG to urgently modify to the new version of 12V. -2X6 interface to mitigate possible disasters. But for now, it seems that 12VHPWR and 12V-2X6 should soon become history. PCI-SIG stated that it will release complete details of the new cable specification CopprLink in 2024, and is expected to gradually introduce it into the specifications of PCIe 5.0 / PCIe 6.0 and other devices.
