Russian scientists are introducing an exotic plant into the country’s agricultural crops – miscanthus, also known as fan grass. This was reported by the press service of the organization of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the SB RAS.

“Scientists from the Institute of Cytology and Genetics SB RAS are introducing a new exotic crop into Russian agriculture – miscanthus. A network of enterprises is being formed in Russia for the production and processing of this perennial herbaceous plant into cellulose,” the press service of the Institute specified. The message is reported by RIA Novosti. It is noted that a plant has been launched in the Moscow and Novosibirsk regions for the processing of this plant. From one hectare of miscanthus you can get up to four tons of cellulose.

Miscanthus is a genus of perennial wild plants. It grows in Australia, Asia and Africa and beyond. This plant is used to produce cellulose, which in turn is needed to create paper.
