To pay tribute to film critic Marc-André Lussier, who died last June, the French-language film festival Cinemania will award a new prize bearing his name during its 29th edition this fall.

The Marc-André-Lussier Jury Prize will be awarded by Cinemania’s Faces of Francophonie jury, made up of artistic personalities from French-speaking cinema. It will reward a film among the ten works selected by the festival.

“In Cannes, in Berlin, at major international events, he was always there, watching dozens of films in a few days, never counting his hours to meet the artisans and creators of the world of cinema. In this, he was obviously a great ambassador for Quebec, ”said festival general manager Guilhem Caillard in a press release on Tuesday.

The assistant editor of La Presse, François Cardinal, said he was touched by the creation of this prize, Marc-André Lussier having worked on a daily basis for more than 30 years. “Throughout his career, Marc-André was able to convey his passion for cinema to the general public in a brilliant way. […] This award pays well-deserved tribute to his work and his contribution to the film industry. [Il] will continue its legacy by giving artisans in the film industry an enviable visibility that highlights the excellence of their work,” he added.

The recipient of the Prize will benefit from ” visibility” of more than $25,000 on the platforms of La Presse, partner of the prize. This is space for the winning film, not editorial content about it.

The films in the Faces of Francophonie category eligible for this Marc-André-Lussier Jury Prize are Foudre (Carmen Jaquier, Switzerland), Àma Gloria (Marie Amachoukeli, France), L’île rouge (Robin Campillo, France), Il rains in the house (Paloma Sermon-Daï, Belgium), Animalia (Sofia Alaoui, Morocco), Midwives (Léa Fehner, France), Let me (Maxime Rappaz, Switzerland) and Quitter la nuit (Delphine Girard, Belgium, France, Quebec). Two other titles will be added soon.

The 29th edition of the festival Cinemania will be held in Montreal from November 1 to 12.
