Introducing the ThinkPad X1 Fold, the first foldable laptop for super managers

It would be perfect in Ethan Hunt’s backpack (the Tom Cruise of “Mission: Impossible”) but also in the briefcase of Fantozzi’s Mega General Director. The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold isn’t just the first foldable screen laptop to take seriously. Compared to its predecessor, the first of the highest quality and exceptional performance. Even on a conceptual level.

The 16.3-inch diagonal foldable OLED display is something that does not go unnoticed and is truly beautiful. Once placed on the support, both vertically and horizontally, it can be magnetically attached to its keyboard. The 4:3 format chosen by Lenovo for the display (instead of the more popular 16:9) makes it suitable for multitasking; in fact, it is possible to work on two applications simultaneously on the same screen. The size of the screen, for example, makes it feasible to work on an Excel sheet, as we did during the test, analyze the data with GPT-4 and use Tableau for data visualization.

The hinge, from a mechanical point of view, is what governs the opening and closing of the screen and has over 200 parts. It was born from the collaboration with Motorola, which with its Razr introduced one of the most innovative folding smartphones on the market. In practice, the display is stable, both when folded and when fully opened. In the center, the crease is there but it never bothers me. The extra idea is revealed when it is folded to ninety degrees because it transforms into a 12-inch laptop with a virtual keyboard, or on which the physical one can be placed, transforming it into a real mini-portable computer. When closed, however, it is similar to a booklet (17.62 x 27.62 x 1.74 cm), not light but which fits everywhere. As regards performance, we had an Intel Core i7 with 32 GB of RAM and 1TB hard drive, plus built-in 5G connectivity, a 64Wh 3-cell lithium-polymer battery, and MIL-STD-810H military specs. As suggested above, we are in the territory of top managers or secret agents. Also because we are talking about an innovative, well-designed, original machine which, therefore, costs just over 5,000 dollars. At the airport, starting a video conference with the screen vertical makes it really difficult to go unnoticed.
