Introducing the world’s first augmented reality laptop

Will the computer of the future still have a screen? Sightful’s Spacetop tends to demonstrate that working on a virtual screen, seen only by the wearer of augmented reality glasses, might be a good alternative to the laptop PC as we know it today.

For its creators, this very first augmented reality portable PC in the world represents neither more nor less than the beginnings of the next generation of personal computers. It would also be the first democratized practical application of augmented reality, which is to say that the project is particularly ambitious.

A screen equivalent to 100 inches for $2000

By wearing simple connected glasses, you end up with a screen equivalent to 100 inches diagonally in front of you. The idea is to be able to transport your workspace with you in a virtual, but also private and personalized way.

At the hardware level, all you need is a keyboard and some augmented reality glasses to carry around with you. The PC has its own operating system (Spacetop OS) and has a relatively low battery life of only 5 hours. Note that it is however compatible wifi 6 and 5G. In effect, it works just like any laptop, without any gesture controls.

The applications are superimposed on the real world, the user is therefore not completely disconnected from his environment. He can thus work in a comfortable way in complete intimacy, in the respect of the private life, sheltered from the glances of the curious ones, and this wherever he is: at home, in transport, in the café or in the office.

In the development phase, Spacetop is currently the subject of a program open to a thousand testers, for $2,000.
