A little over a week after the terrorist attack in Brussels, the investigation continues with a new arrest, this time here. A man suspected of having provided the weapon to Abdesalem Lassoued with which he killed two Swedes. Investigators must determine the link between the two men.
He would have been aware of the purchase of weapons by Abdessalem Lassoued. The individual arrested this morning was interviewed and investigators are seeking to find out his link with the case and the attacker. Did he provide these weapons? How aware was he of their usefulness? An investigation is underway, but the federal prosecutor’s office is not communicating.
This is not the first arrest, because just before the attack in Brussels, Abdesalem Lassoued recorded a video allegiance to the Islamic state. 26 of his contacts received it and today, investigators are examining the nature of these relationships.

“There is a whole human network that must be identified in the periphery of the individual in question,” explains Didier Leroy, researcher at the royal military school. “There is also the fact that there was the use of an automatic weapon, and therefore inevitably, it is this type of lead that the police will follow.”

Relations with foreign intelligence services are increasing. Last week, a relative of the attacker was arrested in Nantes, before being released. This is also the case of a man arrested in Germany, but he is not recognized as an accomplice of Lassoued. On the other hand, two men are charged in Paris and are placed in pre-trial detention. All were linked to the attacker.
“We need to distinguish between people who act like lone wolves and the fact that people are rarely truly lone wolves by nature. We are all socially connected“, tempers the researcher.
The weapon used by the perpetrator of the attack is an American AR-15. On October 16, Abdesalem Lassoued also carried two other firearms.
