Investigation of Joe Biden’s Handling of Classified Documents: Special Prosecutor’s Conclusion

2023-11-17 14:52:30

The special prosecutor charged with investigating Joe Biden’s handling of confidential documents appears to have concluded that there are no grounds to charge the president or anyone else in the matter, according to CNN, which relies on sources familiar with the investigation. THE Wall Street Journal says Robert Hur, a Republican appointed by U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, is preparing a report that is expected to be highly critical of how Biden and his longtime aides handled the documents. But his investigation should not lead to an indictment of the president, according to the daily.

Biden claimed he had no idea that classified documents from his time as vice president were stored in a garage at his Wilmington home and in an office he used during the four years he he was not in office. After the discovery of documents in this office, in November 2022, his lawyers contacted the National Archives and subsequently cooperated with the Department of Justice, which opened an investigation into the matter.

Hur’s report is expected to be made public by the end of the year. A decision not to indict Biden would anger Donald Trump, who is being sued by the same Justice Department after more than 300 confidential documents were discovered in his possession after he left the White House. In Biden’s case, we would be talking about a small number of documents (“less than a dozen”, according to NBC News).
