IOC: The Russian Olympic Committee is suspended

IOC spokesman Mark Adams, speaking after the first day of the executive board meeting in Mumbai, said: “The Russian Olympic Committee no longer has the right to act as a National Olympic Committee as defined in the Olympic Charter and cannot receive any funding from the Olympic Movement.”

“The unilateral decision taken by the Russian Olympic Committee on October 5, 2023 to include regional sports organizations subordinate to the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine (i.e. Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhia) is a violation of the Olympic Charter, as it violates the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine (NOC) territorial integrity recognized by the International Olympic Committee under the Olympic Charter,” the organization’s statement explains to the media.

At the same time, the IOC reserves the right to decide on the participation of “individual neutral athletes” from Russia in sporting events, including the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2026 Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics, the statement said.

The Russian Olympic Committee called this decision politically motivated.
