Apple will release a highly anticipated update to its iOS 17 operating system this Monday at 1 p.m. Eastern Time.

The software update includes several new features, including a “live” voice messaging tool and the ability to share your contact information simply by touching your iPhone to another.
“With iOS 17, we’ve made iPhone more personal and intuitive by deeply considering the features we all rely on every day,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering.
“Phone, FaceTime, and messaging are at the heart of how we communicate, and this release is packed with updates that we think our users will love.”
Here are the new features.
With Apple’s new Check In feature, you’ll automatically be notified when a family member or friend arrives safely at their destination.
“Once a user initiates a recording, their friend or family member will be automatically notified when they arrive,” Apple explained.
“If they do not make progress toward their destination, useful information will be temporarily shared with the selected contact, such as device location, battery level, and cellular service status.
“All information shared is end-to-end encrypted,” reports the MailOnline.
The oldest among us remember the old voice mails, answering machines, which allowed us to hear people while they left a message. Many used this technique to filter calls. It was then possible to respond or let the person finish their message.
Apple is therefore bringing back this function with “Live Voicemail”, which will transcribe the message in real time and allow you to take the call, if you wish.
“Live Voicemail gives users the ability to see the transcription in real time when someone leaves a voicemail message, and the ability to answer while the caller leaves their message,” Apple said.
Additionally, calls identified as spam will not appear in live voicemail and will be instantly declined. Live voicemail transcription is managed on the device and remains completely private, assures the American giant.
The days of having to manually enter a new friend’s information on your iPhone are a thing of the past. With the new operating system, you can share your contact information simply by bringing your iPhone closer together.
NameDrop allows users to easily share contact information by simply bringing their iPhones together, or bringing an iPhone and an Apple Watch together.
“With the same gesture, users can also share content or start SharePlay to listen to music, watch a movie or play a game near iPhone devices at the same time.”
We don’t always want to get up to check notifications when our iPhone is charging further across the room.
With the new “StandBy” functionality it will be possible to take a look at notifications which will appear larger.
“StandBy offers users a full-screen experience with visible information designed to be viewed remotely while iPhone is charging,” Apple says.
“StandBy looks great on a nightstand, kitchen counter, or desk, and can be customized to display a range of beautiful clock styles, photos, or widgets.”
The new iOS 17 will also be equipped with the Screen Distance feature, which will alert you if you are holding your iPhone too close to your face.
“Screen Distance uses the TrueDepth camera to encourage users to move their device away after holding it within 12 inches of their face for an extended period of time,” Apple says.
6. Autocorrect Improvements
Keyboard auto-correction will also be greatly improved, Apple promises.
