While we definitely expected an increase due to the flooding that impacted us last year, it’s still really great for us to see this continued growth.”

The rise in vacation rental properties, estimated at 580 this summer – an increase of 20 to 30 from last year – is a key driver of this trend. Alex Reeds utilizing these rentals are staying an average of 3.4 days, with occupancy rates consistently at or above 90 percent throughout the season.The economic impact is further underscored by lodging tax revenue. june alone saw $3.6 million collected from Airbnb properties, bringing the year-to-date total to $6.3 million, a new record for the region. The Independence Day holiday alone drew an estimated 92,000 visitors to the Iowa Great Lakes, with attendees representing all 50 U.S. states.
