IPEF Cooperation for Food Security and Agricultural Sustainability… Enhancing regulatory transparency

14 countries participating in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), a new economic and trade platform led by the United States, have agreed to cooperate for food security and agricultural sustainability.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on the 11th, the Ministerial Declaration containing these contents was adopted at the IPEC Ministerial Meeting held in Los Angeles on the 8th and 9th (US local time).

Ministers identified food security and sustainable agricultural technology advancement as priority tasks in agriculture, optimizing land, water and fuel use and increasing productivity, and mitigating climate change and enhancing resilience.

In addition, as in the WTO (World Trade Organization) agreement, they agreed to cooperate to improve the resilience of food and agricultural supply chains, avoid unfair restrictions on agri-food imports, and improve the transparency of regulatory procedures.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said, “We have actively participated in internal and external discussions to ensure that the sensitivity of our agriculture is taken into account in this Ministerial Declaration.” .
