iPhone 13: Apple support confirms that the “Noise reduction” option will not return

Finally, the iPhone 13 should indeed be deprived of the option ” noise reduction which decreases ambient background sounds during phone calls. This option is indeed absent on the new range of phones from Apple, while it was present on all recent iPhones. While we expected to see an iOS update fix the problem, Apple Support has confirmed that this feature will simply not be available on the iPhone 13.

The Noise Reduction option on an iPhone 12 (left) is missing on an iPhone 13 (right).

Tired of waiting for a possible iOS update to correct the situation, a reader of 9to5Mac asked Apple Support directly if they had any information on a possible patch release. And there have obviously been changes behind the scenes, because the response from the staff is clear:

We have an update on this. Noise reduction is not available on iPhone 13 models, which is why you don’t see this option in the settings.

The assistant confirmed that this is not a bug or a software problem, and that the iPhone 13 series simply does not support this function. The reader adds that noise cancellation was intentionally disabled for unspecified reasons. To wrap up the conversation, the support person then invites them to comment on Apple’s website.

This change is quite surprising, because Apple had explained to several customers that it was working on a fix. The quality of calls should therefore theoretically not change for the latest models. Difficult to justify this choice: perhaps Apple considers that the microphones and the optimization of its OS are already doing a good enough job not to have to add an additional accessibility option?

Even if this answer comes from the assistance of Apple, we can always keep hope: it is not excluded that Apple retraces its steps. The iPhone 13 have more than enough hardware to support this function, it being available on the iPhone 4S… released almost 10 years ago!
