The iPhone 15 is the most basic model in the Cupertino giant’s new line of smartphones. Likewise, the Galaxy S23 fits in as the most modest of the Korean flagships for 2023. Even so, the clash between them is a classic to know which manufacturer has the best compact top of the line of the year.

We have some specific innovations in the design of each of these two devices. The iPhone now has the Dynamic Island as its most modern notch, but it kept the square camera block, with diagonal lenses. The Galaxy distributes the sensors individually, as in the most expensive model in the family. But the notch remains in the shape of a hole.
In terms of construction, we have no news. We find in both a structure made of aluminum, with a glass back, covered by protection against scratches. The S23 has a slight advantage here as it is more compact and lighter than the “Apple” competitor.

Both come with a 6.1-inch screen, with Full HD+ resolution. However, the iPhone contains an OLED panel, which stands out for its impeccable color reproduction, while the Galaxy comes with its traditional Dynamic AMOLED 2X, with the main focus on the brightness level. In any case, both do well in all situations.
Both have HDR10 technology for streaming playback, but only Apple supports Dolby Vision. They also have protection against scratches, either by the American company’s Ceramic Shield or by the Korean company’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
What will weigh more in this regard is the 120 Hz refresh rate provided by Samsung, for much greater fluidity than the competitor’s 60 Hertz.

As we have two flagships here, the manufacturers did not skimp on audio and placed a stereo system in these models. The call speaker is used as a secondary channel to expand the immersive user experience.
Both sets provide a great balance between bass, midrange and treble, but Apple’s limitations for this generation in maximum volume mean that the Galaxy has greater sound power.

The iPhone 15 comes out of the box with iOS 17 from the factory, against the native Android 13 present on the S23. Although Samsung offers four major updates to its top of the line products, time is not yet enough for the longevity of many years provided by Apple.
Both systems offer high fluidity, whether due to the optimizations of the “Apple” software, or the 120 Hz rate delivered by the Korean panel. Compatibility with the 5G network also guarantees a fast mobile network on these devices.

In benchmarks, Apple has a slight advantage, with around 22% more AnTuTu scores. When it comes to games, both can run all titles at maximum quality, but only the Korean smartphone will be able to run compatible games at up to 120 fps.

Apple has expanded the battery of its most basic top and now has 3,349 mAh. Samsung also increased it a little, with a capacity of 3,900 mAh in its model. Which one has the best autonomy? Our standardized tests indicated that the iPhone lasts half an hour longer and is the only one to pass the 25-hour mark away from the socket.
When we go to load, the scenario is reversed. The “Apple” device needs around two hours to complete the process. This is a much longer interval than the Galaxy’s period of just over an hour, with its 25 W adapter.
The iPhone 15 scores for greater autonomy; and the S23 stands out for its shorter recharging time.

The iPhone has two rear cameras, now with a 48 MP main sensor. The Galaxy has a triple set, led by a 50 MP primary lens. Both take photos with great sharpness, vibrant colors and good contrast. Their HDR hits well, while the duo’s night mode is efficient and controls noise well.
Their ultrawide has a good dynamic range, but the S23’s records more details in the shadows. Only the Korean one contains a telephoto camera, with three times optical zoom, to capture images from afar with a higher quality than the digital-only zoom of the main iPhone 15.

We saw that Samsung surpasses Apple when we talk about the most affordable top of the line of 2023. The Galaxy S23 wins in the most compact and lightest design, in the most fluid screen, in the sound with greater power, in the best system resources, in games at 120 fps, faster loading and a camera with a better ultrawide and telephoto lens.
