According to a leak from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, both iPhone 16 Pro models that will be released next year will contain a periscope telephoto lens, unlike the iPhone 15, where only the iPhone 15 Pro Max will contain this technology.
In a new note posted on his Medium blog, Kuo said that the iPhone 16 Pro will be slightly larger than previous Pro models, and that the larger internal space provided by the new size is the reason why Apple is able to introduce a periscope lens to both premium devices for the first time.
Last week, an analyst specializing in the display industry, Ross Young, revealed that Apple will adopt new screen sizes for both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models and said that the iPhone 16 Pro screen size is expected to be 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a screen size of 6.9 inches.
The current iPhone 14 Pro screen size is 6.1 inches, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max screen size is 6.7 inches. It is expected that all iPhone 15 models for this year will maintain the same dimensions as the iPhone 14 series.
According to the Emirati “24” network, Kuo believes that for both iPhone 16 Pro models, Quell will be the supplier for the periscope camera system, which works by making the light that enters the telephoto lens reflect by an angled mirror towards the camera’s image sensor.
The change in the direction in which the light travels allows for a longer zoom setting within the phones, allowing users to zoom in further without any distortion or drop in quality.
The optical zoom ratio is expected to be about 6x in the iPhone 15 Pro, and Kuo did not specify whether the zoom range will be improved for the iPhone 16 models, according to the “McRumors” website.
