We announced in April that iPhones stolen in the region of Cracolândia, in São Paulo, are sold for prices well below those found at retail. At the time, an operation was conducted in a location known to be a “center” of stolen/stolen cell phones in the city.

Now, as brought by UOL Tilt, statistics on the number of occurrences of robberies and thefts by the Public Security Secretariat of the State of São Paulo, referring to the first half of 2023, showed how targeted iPhones are by criminals. At the request of the vehicle, a consultancy analyzed the data, resulting in several findings on crimes against property in the state.

Something interesting is that, among smartphones, the Apple is the brand whose appliances registered the second largest frequency of burglary/robbery in the state, second only to Samsung. Of all the devices seized by the police in the first half of the year, 26,51% were from the Apple, while 33,48% they were from South Korea.

Compared to the same period last year, the Cupertino giant rose one position in this ranking. In 2022, the second brand on the list was Motorolacom 24,79%while Apple, in third, recorded 22,83%. Samsung, however, remained in the first place, only having the proportion dropped a little from the 34,95% observed in the first half of 2022.

Other brands to appear on the list are Xiaomifourthly, with 8,26% of stolen/stolen devices, the LG (2,01%) in sixth and ASUS (0,56%) in seventh. In fifth place, “other” brands were grouped, with a relatively significant percentage of 5,46%.

Samsung: 33,48%
Apple: 26,51%
Motorola: 22.77% Xiaomi: 8.26% Others: 5.46% LG: 2.01% Asus: 0.56% Positive: 0.27% Multilaser: 0.20% Nokia: 0.20%

Overall, the number of robberies and thefts decreased by 3% in the state of São Paulo between the first semesters of 2022 and 2023. 178.618 cases in the first six months of this year, against 182.443 of the same period last year. In 2023, March was the month with the highest number of registered occurrences, including an increase of 14% per year.

Thefts are more frequent (50,98% of cases) than robberies (44,27%). In both cases, occurrences are more observed on days closer to weekends, between Thursday and Saturday, occurring mostly at night (34,75%) and on public roads, where 72,98% of the registered cases happened.

If you are a victim of one of these crimes, the first step is to register a Police Report (BO) — which, in some states, can be done online — in addition to changing passwords, blocking SIM cards and the device itself.

If it’s an iPhone, you can locate it, mark it as lost, and lock it via network Search (Find My) on another Apple device or on iCloud.com. As of iOS 15, even powered off devices can be located.
