The cross-border exchange began on Sunday when US forces struck Larak Island, situated near the narrowest point of the Strait of Hormuz. United States Central Command stated that the operation targeted two Iranian launchers after IRGC forces were allegedly observed preparing to fire rockets carrying sea mines into the vital shipping lane.
CENTCOM characterized the attack as limited and precise, asserting that military units acted against an imminent threat. The military command has not publicly provided visual evidence supporting the minelaying allegation.
The Sunday strike resulted in the deaths of several Iranian soldiers and civilians, according to reporting on the engagement. In response, the IRGC vowed that aggressors would face definite punishment and warned that every attack would be met with even more devastating responses.
