The commander of the ground forces in the Iranian army, Brigadier General Kiumourth Heidari, confirmed that “security is fully established in the common borders with Afghanistan.”

During his visit to the Sistan region, and his inspection of the border with Afghanistan, Haidari said that “the common border with Afghanistan is completely under the control of the ground forces,” according to what the Iranian “Tasnim” agency reported.

Haidari explained that the Iranian presence on the border “does not mean that there is a threat to us,” but rather it is “for intelligence and security oversight.”

The Iranian official added, “There may sometimes be a disagreement between the border guards in dealing with the type of movement, and this is not an important issue, and it has always been under complete control.”

Haidari indicated that the border guards and ground forces are in complete control of the area.

And he added, “As long as the neighboring country shares a common border with us and respects international laws, we will show mutual respect and maintain good neighborliness. But if we feel that the other party does not want to comply with the laws, it will face another interaction.”

Haidari’s statements come after Iranian media reported, yesterday, Saturday, that clashes took place between Iranian border guards and militants affiliated with the Taliban movement, near the Afghan border.

And the Iranian “Tasnim” agency stated that the clashes took place in the “Makki” and “Laswali” areas, which are located in the Afghan state of Nimroz, between the Taliban forces and the Iranian border guards.

The differences have intensified recently, between Iran and the Taliban government in Afghanistan, over the sharing of water shares from the border river “Hirmand”.
